چکیده

The solution manifold of the system of nonlinear differential equations representing a BWR needs to be examined to understand its dynamical behavior. In particular, stable or unstable fixed points and stable or unstable oscillatory solutions (or turning points/saddle node bifurcations) are of paramount interest. In this framework integrated BWR (system) codes and simplified BWR models (reduced order models, ROM) are used together to reveal the solution manifold of the nonlinear differential equations describing the system. This work is a continuation of the previous work at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI, Switzerland) and University of Illinois (USA) on this field. The ROM developed at PSI was upgraded by introducing the recirculation loop, subcooled boiling and modification to the feedback reactivity calculation. The upgraded ROM has been coupled with the BIFDD code which performs semi-analytical bifurcation analysis. The methodology and some results of the semi-analytical bifurcation analysis of the modified ROM will be demonstrated and discussed. The stability boundary (SB) and the nature of the Poincarè-Andronov-Hopf bifurcation (PAH-B) are determined and visualized in appropriate two-dimensional parameter maps. Furthermore, for independent confirmation of the results, numerical integrations of the ROM differential equations have been carried out in the MATLAB environment.

BWR stability and bifurcation analysis using reduced order models and system codes: Identification of a subcritical Hopf bifurcation using RAMONA

The system code RAMONA, as well as a recently developed BWR reduced order model (ROM), are employed for the stability analysis of a specific operational point of the Leibstadt nuclear power plant. This has been done in order to assess the ROM’s applicability and limitations in a quantitative manner. In the context of a detailed local bifurcation analysis carried out using RAMONA in the neighbou...

Interpretation of in-phase and out-of-phase BWR oscillations using an extended reduced order model and semi-analytical bifurcation analysis

An extended reduced order model is presented and applied to analyze global and regional oscillations in BWRs. Stability and semianalytical bifurcation analyses are performed using this model in conjunction with the bifurcation code BIFDD to determine the stability limits for both in-phase and out-of-phase oscillation modes and the nature of Poincaré–Andronov–Hopf bifurcation. The results obtain...

Hopf bifurcation analysis of a diffusive predator-prey model with Monod-Haldane response

In this paper, we have studied the diffusive predator-prey model with Monod-Haldane functional response. The stability of the positive equilibrium and the existence of Hopf bifurcation are investigated by analyzing the distribution of eigenvalues without diffusion. We also study the spatially homogeneous and non-homogeneous periodic solutions through all parameters of the system which are spati...

Cladding Performance under Power Oscillations in BWRs

Stability has been the main concern in the development stage of BWRs in history. Although stability studies of BWRs have a long history and there is extensive literature available, the literature on fuel performance under unstable power oscillations is very limited. It is very desirable to investigate the fuel integrity in BWR power oscillation conditions. This goal of this work is to examine t...
